I do apologize in advance if my spelling is wrong, i posted in the wrong section of this forum or you just find my question stupid.
Hi.
so...where to begin..yes, my current gear.
My Gear/studio/room:
I Currently and for the last year or so use Ampeg SVT-VR and Ampeg 810E. The bass i play on (almost all the time) is the Fender highway one p-bass. I've previously used the same cab with a Ampeg svt 7 pro.
In addition to this i use my boss overdrive and the Tech 21 sansamp nyc DI. The "home" studio is a basement with concrete/wood walls and a few to many windows. The area is about 40kvm or if you will 430.5564ft² (if you trust the internetbased calc). In other words, theres a whole lot of vibrations going on in this room when im there.....
I mostly record with Yamaha subkick, sm57/8 or beta 52
My situation:
I'm playing in a punk/rock/grunge/metal kind of band/studio project. I'm the bass player as you probably understand but also vocals and guitar. It gets kind of lonley... however.. I've used this gear for quite some time now and have recently stumbled on a problem. Before i used to be in a slightly larger room with the Ampeg svt 7 pro and the 810. My recordnings where all kind of good, i was kind of happy and everything felt OK. But....then i found the SVT-VR and everything went from kind of OK to me looking like the grinch happy face 24/7. The rest of the band where not that happy and my recordnings started to sound like...yeah..crap.
So my dear friend that knows all the recording stuff i don't told me to get a decent DI for the studio and use the ampeg monster for rehersals and to hold my coffe. I haven't seen him since...
Then i moved to a smaller room. As said above..around 40kvm. The recordings started to sound even muddier and just wrong. I soon realized i had to much power..and with great power comes great responsibility. So i cried a few days and started to record with the DI from the head.. It didn't go very well since i use distortion a lot.. So i bought the sansamp DI..It sound realy good and im back to sounding ok...and feeling ok...everything is average...
I still sometimes at night turn of the lights, shut the drapes and just...go bananas.. It makes me happy.
I like the DI but i want perfection(to my own taste and sound) with my bass sound....
A few days ago i sold the 810...and i don't wan't to talk about it.
My Question:
I'm looking in to getting something new for the VR head. Hopefully something that solves my problems with the volume. I do realize a weaker head would solve everything.. but that sound...god.
I'm thinking something like a 210 cab.
I don't mind combining the recording with the sansamp. The best of both worlds..
I know that testing would be awesome but that's a bit of a problem on the loneliest island in the loneliest country in the north parts of the world.
Thank you in advance
