Been thru some tube amps in the past: Mesa 400, various Bassman and Dual Showman, Music Man stuff...thinkin' about trying one of these, but just wanted some first hand user thoughts and comments...

i posted a few weeks ago on my impressions of the SVT VR - i liked it so much i put it on layaway! do a search on my username (JGR) for the thread - it got pretty long.

i currently have a pair of DB728's i use, and used to have a pair of SVT CL's as well.. so i really love the tubes. i really think ampeg got this one right.

Hi Chef!

There are some reviews on TB for this amp, well I have one too. It is very huge sounding and loud. I can really feel and hear bass in our band since I got it. It has only few knobs and it's very easy to find a decent sound. To me, it's a "plug & play" amp. The thing I like the most is that there's only volume knob and no gain. It's heavy, but when bass spills in the room you forget about its weight. I couldn't decide between mesa400 and vr for a long time, but then I went with ampeg because I have another ampeg amp from before (and I knew what to expect) and because it was easier to me to find sound that I like than with boogie.

I have a 400+ and I like my 2Pro better because I am more familliar with the pre than I am with the 400+. I would love to try a VR but I havent seen one YET!

I have posted the same sentiments elsewhere but I am very very happy with the VR.

I used Eden solid state stuff for years but sold it all off to get the VR and the Ampeg 810e. At first, I was underwelmed but the more the the cabinet broke in and I figured out my "sound" the happier I got.

Now this think is loud and huge sounding. Yes, it is a wooly and not super articulate sounding amp. But it is so thick and good.

I endorse it whole heartedly.
