Ampeg SVT2Pro + Eden 210XLT

Does this sound like a bad idea to you guys? The head is rated at 300 Watts at 4ohms, and the cab is rated at 350watts. I've looked around a bit on Harmony Central, and I saw a couple of guys saying they used either that setup or the same cab with an SVT Classic, and none of them seemed to have any trouble with it.

I've also been thinking about trading for a 3Pro, just because I don't need the 2Pro, and the 50 lbs of weight I'd be dropping would also be fantastic, but the SVT3Pro is rated 450watts at 4ohms. 450 transistor watts is never as loud as 300 tube watts, but would this cause a problem?

Yeah, that I know. I've got a 1980's Ampeg 8x10 cab, but that thing's heavy as hell! Considering I end up getting DI'd just about everywhere I go, I want to downsize the speaker cab. I just wanna make sure I'm not going to blow up the cab.

Given that it's rated at 350watts, in THEORY I should be able to run this head into it no problem.

Just depends on how loud, and how low you go. The speakers wattage rating really has little to do with it, as it could easily blow with half the wattage it's rated for. It's all about the frequencies your pushing, and the level. I'd be much more comfortable with a 2x12 if I were to rely on any single cab, especially with either of those 2 amps you mentioned.

Going from an 810 to a 210? The amount of volume you will lose will be significant and you have to make sure you still can hear yourself with the smaller speaker. I can understand 810 to 410, but you might be asking too much out of one cabinet. I use an 810 setup on most stages and a 410 when I can't be that loud or don't need it. I don't know anything about your band, but a 210 might not be loud enough for you.

The rig will work just fine. Tube heads distort their output and will usually appear louder because of this. The SVT 3 PRO is still a good head and I would say either of these heads is going to push the 210 quite well. Both heads will growl, but the 2 PRO will growl a lot more.
