AMPEG SVT3 PRO - HEADROOM!!

see those two funny looking things on the side of your head? kind of oblong, has a hole in the middle? those are called "ears." funny thing about them...they work way better to get a sound than idiot lights on your amp. use them.

The LED should light up on EVERY NOTE . . . it's really pretty simple . . . :cool: . . .

I had an SVT-3 about 12 years ago, and I remembered loving the sound, but I had the same problem with headroom.
I then got the SVT-4pro and the headroom problem was solved.
..although call me crazy but I still dig the sound quality of the SVT3 more than the SVT4.

You're not crazy . . . the 3PRO sounds a whole lot "better" than the 4PRO . . .

the 4PRO IS capable of more volume, but I really prefer the sound of my 3 SVT-3PROs . . . :cool: . . .

now run my gain (far left) at about 2 o'clock, tube gain (far right) at full, and master at around 3 o'clock- eq to taste and I overpower everyone including a hard hitting drummer if I go any higher.

Wow Spraeg, you must be in a loud band! I never had to turn my master volume past noon, although I had the EQ settings to taste and the level slider up some.

I agree that the "little blender knobs" (bass boost, high boost) are best left alone. The EQ sliders are really all you need in order to dial in whatever tone you are looking for.

Glad my thread helped out. Ampeg's owner's manual is terrible. They wrote it as if all bassists are also electrical engineers.
