Ampeg SVT3-Pro

Picked this little gem up last weekend...

100_2287.gif

And have been messing with it for the last few days, and I am really liking the tones I am getting. This isn't an Ampeg vs (insert amp name here) thread, I just wanted to say I am enjoying the SVT3-Pro. We don't have another rehearsal until next week, so I won't be able to hear it with a full band until then, but I like it so far. This is also the first Ampeg I have owned, although I have lusted after an SVT-CL for long time :smug:

My normal rig is a Fender P-bass into a GK 700RB-II thru a GK410 SBX Plus and GK115 SBX with a Sansamp 3-channel BDDI if front of it all.

I play in a straight up rock 'n roll cover band, and I can see using both for different occasions.

Call it a short "review" I guess...

You got it for 150? Thats a pretty smokin deal for that head. That amp has a lot of haters on this board, I have one and like it pretty well (though I use a miked b15 most of the time now). Its been loud enough for everything Ive ever needed it to do and sounds great! Congats!

kk thx. is there much difference between the 2 8x10s?

ive recently plyed a show with an ampeg line up so i used my head (ashdown MAG 300) through the ampeg cab.... it sounded like pure gold lol but the ashdown cab itsnt giving out the same effect.

also sorry Biskitt for stealin your thread no1 is answering mine lol

No biggie Owen

Most of the threads I saw on this amp were comparing it to one thing or the other, I just thought I would post what I thought of the amp itself :bassist:

Right now I am running it thru my two GK cabs and I like it, we'll see what happens next week at rehearsal

Right now the settings are...

Gain - to suit

Bass - 2 o'clock

Mid - 3 o'clock

Mid Position - 4

Treble - 12 o'clock

Master - wide open

Tube Gain - 10 o'clock

All buttons out, and I have not messed with the graphic other than to make sure it works....but like I said, I just got it and I'm still messing around, and still need to get it in a band situation too.

I have a SVT-3Pro and think it's a great amp but might have too many tone controls for it's own good. It seems to me that many people do not understand how they all work.I recommend reading the instructions. The tube gain control is not a tube gain control but rather controls the abount of juice the tubes get to control how clean or how much dirt is in the tone. Also, If you use the graphic equalizer, the slide on the right is a volume control. Don't over do the tone coloring and this amp is capable of delivering some absolutely wonderful bass tones.

$150.00 Nice score! I paid well over $900.00 brand new for mine in 1998! And it still cranks to this day! The only problem I have had with this amp is the D.I. does not work. probably a quick fix, I don't use the D.I. so that doesn't bother me. It has been a great amp. Ive cranked this thing a number of nights. At one point, Practicing three times a week and gigging two to three gigs a week, It never let me down. Even with the master at or past 3oclock. I guess mine wasn't built on Monday or Friday lol. Now I want to buy better tubes for it.
it has 4 12AX7's and 1 12AU7. Ive done this once with stock replacements.
Any Suggestions any one?

Somebody call the cops - because that amp was "stolen"! :D

Congratulations on the purchase, and good luck with it. I've often said the 3-pro is a great amp if you can get it at the right price, but this is ridiculous. :)

Maybe I'm smoking the wrong stuff, but I find that if I run the tube gain around 1:00 or 2:00 it lends a bit of a compressed sound to the tone. I'll have to do more comparisons between how I set it now and full-on, but for now my opinion stands for gigs. :)
