Ampeg svt4 + ??? cabinet suggestions

I've done a good bit of reading through the old threads in this forum but I figure I won't get burned at the stake for starting another one of *these* threads.

Ampeg svt4, RMS 1600w @ 4ohm.

Was currently running through my ampeg svt 410hlf rated at 500w

Looking to get a cabinet more suited to the high output. Was looking at the eden 4x10 but was confused by it being 8 or 4ohms. Running it at 8 ohms would be to use it with another cabinet at 8ohms? Also considering Mesa Boogie but I'm scared to jump ship without trying any.

Looking for feedback on high rated 4x10s or 6x10s, basically looking for the most power handling/quality sound in the smallest size possible. Price is an object as always :crying:

power handling specs are absolutely meaningless for the vast majority of cabs out there, especially eden. ampeg is one of the few companies that gives fairly accurate power handling specs because they base them on real world usage and not how much wattage it takes to fry voice coils. eden is notorious for quoting specs from fantasyland. i've used their cabs occasionally, and no way they take any more wattage than anyone else's cabs. if ampeg rated the 410hlf the same way eden does, it would be rated at 1000w.

so bearing that in mind, if you're looking for cabs that can take a full 4 ohm load of power from an svt 4 pro, don't even look at anything smaller than an 810. now you can use a 410 with them and i've done it many times, but there's no way you're going to be able to open it up all the way. honestly, i'd stick with what you have and call it a day, although i could be tempted to run two 410hlf's in a vertical stack on each side of the amp. but since you're not looking for a big rig, i'd just stick with what you have. throttling small cabs with insane wattage = broken cabs.

i finally played a used 610hlf at my local guitar center. To me it didnt sound as good as the 410hlf that i own. It also doesn't sound as good as an 810e IMO. I have seen people rip the ampeg 610 apart on other threads and i can kinda see why now. It doesn't seem to have the character or sweet lows the the 410hlf has and it lacks the punch of an 810e. Just my 2 cents. some people must like them though cus they still sell 'em.

good question. the hlf cabs are voiced differently from the 810e. the 810e is sealed and doesn't have that giant bottom end response of the 410hlf. personally, i like the 810e better but that's a taste thing. have not played the 610hlf, but from what everyone tells me, its low end response is somewhere between the 410hlf and the 810e. and really, i don't think the 610hlf is that much smaller than the 810e. so you'll have to make that call yourself.
