Ampeg V-6B

Hi,
I have for a long time an Ampeg V-6B head with the 215 cab. I've herit of this one, it was made in 1974. The head is in very good condition and the cab have the tolex tear off in a place but is accetable. All the parts are original except the 120v plug. How do you know if the speaker in the cab are in good condition, visually they are but it's old and have been in lot of conditions of humidity (very dry to very humid). Does it worth to buy new speakers or just the enclosure of the cab doesn't worth it.
thank,
Marc

Hi Marc.

If your amp hasn't been powered up in a very long time, then using a variac to slowly increase the AC supply to the head will prevent a sudden inrush of current from frying filter caps which haven't seen power in a long while.

I've seen this advice offered repeatedly by various amp techs (I'm not one of them) here on TalkBass.

Hopefully one will be along soon...
