Ampeg V12 head making noise

Guys i'm looking for some opinion. i bought an Ampeg V12 the other day and a peavey 410 Cabinet, both brand new. When i turn it on it seems a bit under powered but as time goes i start feeling the power. Another issue that i noticed is that it makes a hissing or slightly cracking noise (Not sure how to describe the noise) in the beginning when i play any note, but as time goes it goes down. Any idea what can be done or is it notmal. This is the first time I'm using Ampeg or Peavey.....really not sure what to expect. i'm using a speakon cable, changed the instrument lead and i changed the battery. but the problem still persists. I've added a recorded sound file for you to check out. Thanks

Have you tried a different bass? Different speaker cabinet to rule out the cabinet being damaged? Different head to rule out the head being damaged?

Did you buy it new? If so, contact the dealer's service center for help if it's still under warranty.

Long shot here in light of the symptoms, but as a nod to Best Practices, verify that all (4) of the connectors in the speaker-connection chain carry the "Neutrik" brand name stamp.

If any of those 4 connectors are dual-use (Speakon/phone plug), read the "Loose connections on mesa subway cabs" thread.

Finally, a second long shot: connect the amp's effects send and return jacks and turn the Mix control fully clockwise and see if things improve. (I don't recall ever seeing dirty effect return jack shorting contacts on a brand new amp, but my small sample size counts for nothing statistically.)

Does the box the head was shipped in show any evidence of rough handling? Any scratches or dents on the amp itself which would suggest a prior customer return for the same problem you're seeing?
