Ampeg V4 into what cab?

My recent purchase of an early 70's V4 has prompted a cab upgrade. I'm looking for a 4ohm, compact ported cab. Any suggestions? I've been shopping for an Ampeg 410 hlf but if anyone has any insight into something different I'd like to hear it.

BTW, if you like a dirty stinking bass sound, the v4 is unbelievable. I'm using an old 4x12 ****** cab and the sound still ooooooozes out of the speakers!

I run my V4BH into a BERGANTINO NV610 I think thats a HARD to beat combination. FAR better choice than the 410HLF AMpeg. I had one o those & am 10x happier w/ the Berg. NV610- even tho it's got 2 more spkrs- it's 15lbs lighter, FAR easier to mover, & taller so the top 2 10"s are closer to yr ears!
CANNOT go wrong w/ this cab/amp mix!

The Aguilar GS-2x12 sounds killer with the V-4, you can get it or the BS 2x12 in 8 ohms.
70 lbs and fairly small so makes transporting a tad easier.

A 16 ohm 1x15 and a 16 ohm 4x10 would also be a great combination.

Almost every one I know with a V-4B is using an 8x10.
I use either a 2x15 or 4x12 cab with mine, but I just have to be different.

I love my V4-B through a Bergantino NV610 or NV215 (I'd be willing to wager that when the new NV412 comes out it will kill with a V4-B as well...). If they're too big but you were contemplating an Ampeg 4x10, I'm sure the Berg HS410 would rock your world.

Hmm, apparently I've become quite a little Berg fanboy in the last few months...

An ElectroVoice TL-606 cab.

This is the same as an older Mesa Diesel 1x15" Very compact and lightweight cab and also very loud cabinet that projects around 80-120 hz. NAILS the old school sound with a V4 amp.

The compromise is it's not so good below 70 hz. No punch.

+1, Perfect for the vintage tube tone. Not the best choice for modern / 5 string bass.

The EV TL606 design can be found on countless bass cabs, not just Mesas and should be super easy to find, there have to be tens of thousands of them.

I know what you mean...I just got a 69 V4 and I'm completely in love with it. Probably because the dirty stinking bass sound is my ideal tone!

I use mine with an Ernie Ball Audiophile 2x12 and an Avatar 2x12 Neo (both 8ohms). Both sound pretty good, but I wouldn't mind trying other cabs.

My V4b through my Avatar 210 has an absolute wallop punch and edge and with my 212 I can bring the deep end. I use an MXR M80 DI and that's all.
Clips of my mediocre playing and cool setup are at Link Removed - crank the bass to hear it. I was running both - the 212 facing out and also pointing the 210 at the drummer - I much preferred the 210 every time I wandered over to check it, but I like punch over boom, if you'll forgive me for using so many ridiculous descriptions.
