Congrats on the score. I recently bought a V4B that looks almost exactly like yours (except mine wasn't missing any knows).
I was very surprised and pleased at how good a condition (cosmetically) it was when I got it. I absolutely love the sound of this amp. To my ears it has a sweetness and fullness that I really love. FWIW, I usually have the volume at about noon, bass around 2, treble 10 and midrange 12. I adjust the volume as needed on the bass, which for rehearsals runs about half or less and I never engage the ultra hi/lows switches.
I've ordered a matching 1x15 cabinet from Fliptops because I really wanted to capture the era. But from a sound point of view, it sounds just fine thru my Carvin 1503.
