Ampeg vr?

Hi, I got a svt-4 pro and I'm having some problems with the line out, sent it for repair at the store I bought it, they kept it for like 2-3 months to finally tell me that's it's ok and some ******** like that, hopefully I was in vacation during that time. Anyway the problem is still there and I'm gonna either replace it for a new unit or send it for service, again. But this time I'm dealing with ampeg directly.

Anyway, I tried the vr at the store the other day and I liked the sound a lot, I was in the store though so didn't try it that much. I might sell my svt-4 pro if the problem is still there after that cause those line out and all those extra where one of the reason I bought so if I can't use them I'm better to go with a tube amp that has no extra but that sounds amazing. I will be using it to jam of course, probably some show and lots of studio use.

I never had a tube amp before, my question is, is it really noisy compared to the svt-4 pro? How powerfull is it compared to the 4 pro?

I can't compare it to an SVT-4 Pro, but I adore my SVT-VR.
Here's a clip recorded from the XLR-out to my (rather cut-rate) soundcard in my PC. This is with a Ric4003, btw.

I didn't even know there was a xlr out hehe, sounds pretty good. Is it a preamp out or a line out?

Thanks King, sounds good to me too, heh. This is my first "real" amp and I couldn't be more pleased.
Matskull, it's a balanced line-level output, but you can choose (via toggles on the back next to the XLR jack) whether the signal is pre or post EQ. I hope that answers the question correctly.

I can't find a VR to try or buy in the NYC area, but I keep seeing all these stories from Michigan, and Colorado, and Canada, and such, about 'oh, there was an SVT-VR in the store, so I tried it out.' Damn. Come on NYC, pick up the slack, get a few VRs, so I can try/buy one.

I've even seen a VR over here in Perth - the most isolated city on the face of the planet.......I'm reeeaaally surprised there's none in NYC.

On sound qual (hiss/ crackle etc) i'm not 100% sure it would be cleaner - but my SVPCL, the same preamp as the VR is DEAD QUIET.
As far as tone and the 'spooge' factor - the VR would make the SVT4pro run away and hide. But - that's JMHO.

I haven't played through the VR yet, but my 70's SVT will send any 4-pro home in tears.

It's my understanding that the preamp sections of the SVPCL and SVT-VR are very different. The SVPCL and SVT-CL preamps are the ones that are the same.

I tried one out in Vic. late last year. Sounded great. definately NOT noisy as in amp noise. But LOUD as in volume! Almost hard 2 describe volume of tubes to s.s. amps. I A/B'd my 300PRO with an SVT4PRO & my 300w Tube amp blew it away with volume( & tone)!!! By a LONG shot! I had the 4pro Bridged MONO also!

+1 on the LOUD factor. I keep the volume around 3 when at home, and that's enough to get me some overdriven grit if I dig in or use a pick. It's also easily loud enough to shake everything that isn't nailed down, but a lot of that has to do with resonance and the paper-thin drywall. And the 810 cab.

Cause I know there was some with the svt-4 pro, I'd like to know more about the vr! I'm really thinking about selling my svt-4 pro for the vr.

None that I've heard of. Go 4 it......hard to beat the sound of 6x6550 tubes pounding away into a good cab-which is?????
If U liked the sound of the VR IMHO it's one of the Best new valve amps about. If it wasnt ridiculously expensive in Aus. I woulda had one, but for $2.5K LESS i got my Fender 300PRO which I'm VERY happy with!!!!!!! To say the least!

I went recently to Chicago, and saw one in the local Guitar Center (funny, it was more expensive than in México, and without taking in mind taxes). I tried almost 7 basses with it, and still amazed me more.

It can work very well at any volumes, but if you try and reach the sweet spot, man, that thing goes loud!

The tone is very sweet, with some grind shades, and the basic EQ on it makes it a very happy amp to use. Plus, havin 2 channels, makes it even happier, that way you can set up two basses with propper eq without being running all around.

Lovely amp!

Had a full Eden rig up until a month or two ago... It was great but too............. Polite is probably the word I'd use..

Found a nice used SVTII (Not many of them in Australia) and it's just plain old nasty!!!!!!!!!!!

Just the way I like it.....
