Ampeg vs Acoustic and 10/12/15?

Time for expert input....

I'm getting ready to buy a combo amp of the 200W persuasion.

Here are my key tradeoff questions:

1. Acoustic (B200 or H) vs. Ampeg (B200R)
2. Combo vs. Seperable Head
3. 4x10, 2x12, 1x15

Purpose: for small to med gigs

I have a Warwick Vette $$ 5-string, so I guess a 15" speaker somehow "feels" better for that lowB...

Trying to stay close to 400 bux but speaker variants would probably add a bit.

Worried about Ampeg quality concerns and sudden major price drops and bankruptcy of Loud Technologies who owns them.

Appreciate any and all inputs.

The Ampeg B200R is a highly reguarded amp, but it's limited by it's single 15" spkr. Seperate head and cab will give you more options, as well as more volume. And, a 15" spkr doesn't nececessarily equal more low end. In fact, driver size has little to do with low end at all, it's much more to do with cabinet design. A good 2x12 or 4x10 will give you the lows you want AND provide much more volume. Hope this helps your decision.

I have a tough time comparing "A Practice Amp vs A Practice Amp" for medium sized gigs.

You want to compare AMPEG vs Acoustic? OK... SVT3PRO driving an SVT410HLF, B600H driving their 410. AMPEG is twice the money and sounds AMPEG, the Acoustic is inexpensive and sounds like an Acoustic. Both do their jobs and sound good and are capable of powering medium sized gigs.

And just scale Bob's answer down for combos ;)

The price drops were long overdue, BTW. Moving to Asia and charging the same prices as US gear was a very bad move on LOUD's part. And yes, while they are bankrupt, they're trying to re-organize and get back on the good foot. They fired all the idiots who ran LOUD before, and they have a new crew of idiots in place who actually seem to know what they're doing. In any event, I don't think Ampeg's ever in danger of being out of business. It's such a marketable name with bassists that it could even survive being owned by LOUD.
