Ampeg vs. Ampeg, what do you guys think?

Try out the SVT-VR. IMO the 810E doesn't get the low end I need either- I went with a Bergantino NV 610 and HT 210 to get huge (but very tight) lows and some great growl with my Mesa 400+. That said, the -CL just does not get clean lows very loud. If you want cleaner lows, the 4-Pro is probabally a better choice. A used Mesa 400+ would cost about the same though. GKs also are fairly well known for a big clean sound. You could also try matching up with SWR cabs (IMO, their heads are just underpowered). The Goliath III (and Megoliath) get lots of low end, and are very mid scooped, which is what it sounds like you are going for. I must also, however, stress the importance of low mids, not just bass, in a band setting. If you just try to get only huge low bass, like a low B fundamental, you not only will have a very hard time with equipment but you will also be less audible and get lost in the mix.
