Amps and cabs?

I bought me an ampeg svt 6 pro , and today i tried it out on a old fender 2x15. the problem is that it did not reach sound levels that should be significant higher than my old svt 3 pro. i was a bit disappointed, so is it the speaker that just cant reach that sound levels ? (svt 3 pro 450 watts @ 4 ohm svt 6 pro 1100 watts @ 4 ohm)

Hi.

If the Fender cab was the same that You used with the SVT3, it's just that the ~4dB increase was just that, barely noticeable.

If it wasn't the same cab there's a good chance that the cab You used previously had better sensitivity like ~4dB ;), then there's your answer.

To get twice as loud as the 450W, in theory You'd need 4500W.

Edit: Welcome to TalkBass :)

hm. it is somthing wrong with the whole thing. it was no diffrence between 12o'clock and 5o'clock. and the cab actually started to smell burned. not just a little bit. so much that the guy across the room stoped the band so we could figure out were the smell came from.:hmm:

There's a good chance that the old fender cab was not designed to take anywhere near 1100 W. This doesn't mean that you can't use them together, but it does mean that you can't dump every watt from the 6 pro into that cab.

The lesson here is "Don't be an idiot."

I don't mean to sound harsh, but you are obviously spending a good bit of money on equipment. You should take the time to learn how it all works and how it will work together. Do a little bit of homework in order to avoid costly mistakes.
