Hi guys,
Our band was out gigging in France not so long back, and the three piece band after us had a bassist with a Stingray, and to my surprise, 1x12 (possibly 10 though I think 12) GK Microbass (I think), plus an extension 12" cab on it (different brand).
I can't tell you how astonished I was at the punch of this rig and how well it worked with the drums considering the size of it. This got me thinking, dang, I need a better setup.
I have also considered upgrading anyway since my GK MB 1x15" gets a bit boomy in bigger venues where more juice is required. I want a rig that sounds like that fella's gig - clear and punchy, but not boomy.
So, the question is, is 2x12" enough? Could I get a 1x12" Microbass (or something similar) and tack an extension cabinet on? Or is this an expensive way of doing things?
An Ashdown Electric Blue EB 12-180 EVO II for example:
