Amps that are fan cooled questions

Can you post a pic of the amp looking down from the top? Air flow is usually designed to work one way well (don't modify) but with the inlet and exhaust both on the same panel I suspect design was not a consideration (ingestion of heated air back into the inlet).
In & out airflow are on the right half of the back panel and its all self enclosed with a fan in a 10" x 2 1/2" metal box inside the back of the chassis.

Obviously, the left half of the rear amp chassis are all of the inputs.

There aren't any vents on the top of the amp in a Metro combo. It is basically rack-mounted in the combo cabinet. Airflow is how I described it earlier in the thread.

Mine has been totally reliable since I bought it in 1999.

Yes.....the rest of the chassis has no apparent type of ventilation where the big transformer sits in the middle of the chassis.

Everything is totally enclosed except for the right half where the fan in & out vents are.

If everything is covered by a forced air tunnel then little else needs or can be done. Any mild heat from the transformer will be sinked through the bottom of the chassis.
 
I don't recall any cooling tunnels in my old Metro. It had a huge amount of empty space inside the chassis and I don't think Metros had a reputation for overheating. Just copy the existing housing and you're good to go. FYI, I did the same thing years ago. Eventually I put the amp back in the combo and sold it, then sold my head case to another Metro owner. Yes indeed there is a huge amount of empty space inside the Metro chassis and the "cooling tunnel" is the little separate box I described with the fan in the middle and vents on each side, all exiting the rear of the chassis.
 
If I were in your (EDIT: the OP's) situation I'd be much more concerned about the amp not being able to draw in enough cooling air resulting in overheating components.

The concern is not the fan failing - its overheated components failing and frying the amp.

And you typically won't necessarily See overheated components.
I've seen melted laminations on transformers in tube amps.....burned resistors etc

The only way the amp could not pull in sufficient cooling air is, if the back of the amp, where the cooling fan is, is blocked and/or the fan fails, afaik.

It was an early 2000's model, 2003 or before IIRC. On the head case, the sloping front edge made the corner protectors fit funny. I've since become more proficient at making things and would modify the front or the protectors so they'd sit flat. It wasn't a functional issue, just cosmetic.
