Amy Winehouse has Emphysema

amazing the negativity in the post here..... She had issues long before she was making much noise in the business. She has good poduction and used to have a star potential. I do wish her the best of luck in recovery just like I would for anyone else who is sick or addicted. That being said. I dont pity her, just sayin some of comments where just tasteless and until you have dealt with a person with an addiction you wouldnt understand why. I havent had too much exp. with it other that volenteer work I did in high school

bet she can sing better now.

sorry, but i think her singing is awful - she basically won the lottery, because she surely didn't -earn- her noteriety (she can hardly hold a tune)

I've not dug most of her stuff... but Music is subjective. I've seen clips of her where she was lucid and workin it. She surely has -earned- her notoriety IMHO. She's ill and needs the people close to her to step up and help her out of this downward spiral.

Here is some 2004 footage...

I can't help but think about the saying "you reap what you sew" is showing itself in full effect here.I can't say that I feel bad about her "career" or her "star" potential. I do feel for her family that has to watch her go through this. I've dealt with people that have serious addictions (a few family member) and the only thing I can say is you can't help someone that's not trying to help themselves.

On another note, I'm NOT a fan of her music at all (especially with the message she's putting out about herself). Regardless of the production work I think it's garbage IMHO.

Methinks a lot of living room bassists are jealous of her fame in this thread...

I wouldn't go that far. It is just a shame and frustrating to see someone with that kind of fame (and possible fortune) that most people would give their eye teeth for to squander it on drugs. Drugs are an addiction and that sucks but the addiction occurs after the first desicion to use is made.

You know, when I first heard this news, I had a feeling it was actually COPD, and not yet full-blown emphysema.

I have COPD. If she takes decent care of herself, she can beat it, and live. And sing, and be a better singer!

I *still* struggle with cigs, and I understand what she's up against. I've quit, then started again, over and over. Stress, extremely heavy-duty life changes, and living in a house where the other adults smoke all the time and having lots of smoker friends, has made it very difficult for me to quit entirely. But I work out, and minimize my smoking as much as possible without becoming an insane beeotch. And I'm not on crack.

She has a very, very difficult road ahead of her. She will have to choose between her drugs of choice, and her lungs. Its a more difficult thing than most people realize, but it *is* a demon that can be fought and defeated, or at least, kept at bay.
