An Infamous "ah-ha" Moment...

I was watching one of MarloweDK's videos:



I tried this once and as the title describes I had an "ah-ha" moment. Maybe it will be the same for someone else out there. I'm not sure how but I can basically take this scale all over the place now by intuition after playing it through the top two strings only. I think this will get me started on attempting some solo type stuff.

...I'm no soloist. That said, the best solos I've heard are not based on patterns (pentatonics).

Thanks a million for this. It is a "ah-ha" moment for me, too. This guy is incredible. I made a $40 donation to him about one year ago. He has a note-for-note cover of that Willie Weeks solo "Voices (Everything is Everthing). Incredible bass player who really makes watching YouTube great.

The "not based on patterns" comment strikes me as bizarre.

Just what is a scale, if not a pattern?

Anyway, pentatonic gets you about 2/3 of all the world's music. You can toss in other notes to get the other scales.

For me I remember being baffled many decades ago how do you know what notes to play if they're not written down. It really is a liberating "a ha"
