Another shot....I quickly swapped the plastic chrome knobs for black metal ones.

@Hues what size shaft does the bass use?
@pcake hi. I owned this bass in black lefty about three years ago. I have to flip the strings to righty-- it's how I learned. I could not get it to line up neck wise so I gave it to a church. It turned out I didn't know you have to shave down the string nut and adjust the truss, bridge, and string nut. Well, this year I found another GSR100EXL in pristine condition, but I'm going to send the neck to warpedneck.com to make sure it's true and have them polish the frets and ends.
Even though, as you said, this is a bargain bass, I found due to the sound and simplicity, I'm drawn to playing it more and more. I have an SR300L and SR500L and both are outstanding basses. But I love the MM sound of the SR!00ex and the simplicity of it. If I were to upgrade, I believe I'd get a Nordstrand pickup, or maybe Aguilar. I too am going to swap the volume controls out, and maybe the bridge and tuners to black ultralights...
i, too, find i play it a lot - the simplicity and comfortable body make it fun to play...
The knob shafts are standard 1/4 inch.
And thankfully,the stain is much darker than in the picture.
just a quick update - while i am more comfortable on shorter scale basses, my GSR100EXMOL (the bass in my original post) is my only comfortable long scale, and i continue to really enjoy it. btw, i never did mod anything on it

I'm loving my GSR100EX. The only mod I did was to string it to BEAD.
Anyone got some good sound clips? I can't seem to find anything useful on YouTube. I'm wondering how close it comes to sounding like an MM bass. I owned another bass with a mahogany body, it was also an Ibanez and also had a rosewood fingerboard, and it was just too damn polite sounding for my taste. It played and felt fantastic, though. I now, probably unfairly, associate mahogany with that sound.
Speaking of mahogany, is the mahogany oil finish version actually made of mahogany, or is that just the tint of the stain? The painted version is clearly poplar, but I'm seeing the GSR100EX-MOL listed as poplar-bodied on some sites and mahogany-bodied on others.

i assumed mine was mahogany, as sweetwater claims, but ibanez says this:
top/back/body Poplar body
and i hadn't looked closely at the wood - it doesn't look like mahogany.
