Well, it's been a year. Not to the hour, mind you, as we started shortly after midnight EST. So I guess it's been a year and almost a day. A year ago when a small crack team of visionary-revolutionaries pioneered the widespread use of big fonts and commando'd the idea onto Talkbass.
Sorry to disappoint some of you with the lack of an organized celebration, but that decision was very nearly a forgone conclusion about a month after Big Font Day.
For those of you that might be happy about it, rest assured your displeasure the first time around didn't play a part in the decision. This isn't really the first Big Font Day that was cancelled, though.
The original plan called for a Big Font Day every 5th Tuesday in the months that had one (4 since last October 30th). The idea being that no one would see it coming. Each and every time.
Somewhere between the awesomeness that was Big Font Day and the ungodly complaining, the single day became bigger than the schedule.
A few people have assumed that the whole thing was concocted as a some form of trolling. Not so. Truth be told, we really had no idea what the reaction would be, but I'd have placed my money on the opposite reaction. I guess I'm not right all the time.
Oddly, I think I made more enemies in one day with the size I typed in than I had in the prior 3 years bluntly expressing sometimes unpopular opinions. It still seems unbelieveably ridiculous to me that people can get more irrate about the size of letters than the content of a post.
Apparently a number of people reported us on Big Font Day. Does anyone want to hazard a guess at how many rule violations were NOT reported in the same timeframe? I counted. Needless to say, it was an eye-opening look into the psyche of some users.
So anyway, it was decided that a sequel just wouldn't be the same and the idea of an official celebration was, with some regret, put down.
So here it is, fellas (and two ladies): my commemoration to Big Font Day. Cheers.
