Double Bass Annoying right hand index callus situation

Wondering whether anyone else on here has experienced this. I have a callus in the crease in the first joint on my index finger of my right hand. It gets big enough that it really bashes against underlying nerves and tissue when I play and doesn’t feel particularly nice. Also it kind of snags on the strings in an annoying way. I’ve tried to gingerly, go at it with a nail clipper and afterwords an emery board which sort of helps sometimes but as you can imagine, it’s sort of a precarious operation. I guess I’m less asking anyone for a solution than I am wondering who else can commiserate With this particular job hazard.

It has been a long while since I've been heavy on the pizz, but waterproof medical tape and/or lots of moisturizing. Might have to take a few days off to soften up and then start up a prevention regiment.

Stay in a good hot shower for a while, get a pumice stone and sand down your calluses. Nothing special, just a regular old pumice stone. For extra credit use some lotion. I like CeraVe Mousturizing cream, it’s real serious. Besides playing Double bass I also do powerlifting and the knurling on barbells work up calluses real quick. Also, don’t sand it away completely, it’s there because it’s your body protecting itself, just leave it thin and then lotion it, that will keep it flexible and comfortable.
