Another “what amp would you run with this cab?” thread

Thinking of getting a lighter weight amp as a back up to push my Ampeg Heritage SVT-810AV. I'm getting the matching Heritage 50th anniversary tube amp eventually (back ordered like many things these days). What amp would you put on this fridge as a backup?

Thanks. That one is definitely on my short list, but I'm wondering if that is the best sounding option for the cab. Why stick with Ampeg?

"Best sounding" isn't really objectively definable. It's all down to what you like. If you're making a list, you might consider a Quilter BB800/802 or a Mesa TT-800, just for starters (there are many other possibilities). These aren't interchangeable with each other, or with a tube Ampeg, but you might like one or both of them anyway

Agreed it is subjective. With low inventory it's hard to find anything to try in advance. The Mesa TT-800 looks interesting to me and is in stock but not available to try with my fridge unless I just order one and send back if I don't like. I hate sending stuff back unless it is defective

If I were in the US, I'd probly go for the TT800, sadly, here in Australia they're outta my price range. Almost $3k! redunculous!
Most other similar quality 800w class D amps are at least $1k cheaper here.


But if it were $1300 like I see it advertised for in US stores... I try that

I love my Genzler Magellan 800. I run a friend's custom-made tube preamp before it, but even without that, it's an excellent class D option with plenty of power to light up a fridge. I play through a pair of sealed Bergantino NV115's. This is all entirely subjective, but I like the contour knob on this amp, and the near silent operation no matter how soft or otherwise I play it.

I really like Quilter bass block. I got one for a backup to my SVT and now I just use it.

I picked up a used Quilter BB800 (for $450.00) as a pedal board mounted backup for my Fender Super Bassman.
As a long-time tube amp snob I'm rather shocked by how much I like it.

Any of the Mesa Subway amps. I use a D800 with my Ampeg 810 and it is thunderous! However, a few of the suggestions for any of the GK amps aren't a bad idea either and I've often thought of finding an old 800RB to have around.

If you are eventually going to get an SVT, you could look for a preowned Tech 21 VT Bass 500 to kinda scratch that itch... pair it with a smaller cab for gigs you can't take the fridge out for even after you get the SVT.

If you are looking for something different for some variety

• any of the aforementioned GK amps
• Lab Series L4
• Fender Rumble 800 HD
• Marshall Super Bass or a clone
• Orange 4-Stroke

I've gotta TH500 Aguilar and it does what it does extremely well. I've used it with a NV215 and was great.
I'd imagine into an 810svt would be too.
Even the TH350 would be lovely

Even a Ampeg PF-350 will go a long way with that cab. I am partial to the Ampeg sound.
