Another 400+ question.

hey there, i have another mesa 400+ question. Since the ohm load can total 2 ohms, does that mean i can run the 400+ head thru 4 8 ohm cabs putting out 500watts(as described)? If so, how do i run these speakers parallel when there arent 4 8ohm outputs? Sorry, I'm a bit confused by all of this, any help would be appreciated!

First off, the Mesa is more like 300 tube watts. And it puts that out regardless of impedance. You can easily do this matchup. Just daisy chain em to a 2 Ohm tap, or daisy chain 2 onto each 2 Ohm tap.

Mesa's page for the 400+ really bugs me. I wish they'd just put 300 watts rms and be done with it. :scowl:
But just to echo what Plain Old said, the 400+ puts out 300w into either 8, 4 or 2 ohms. From each of the 2 ohm inputs on the head, run a speaker cable into the 1st cab, then from the 2nd input/output on said cab to the input of the next cab.

Thanks guys for the clarity. so running it through 4 8 ohm cabs will give me about the same volume as 2 4 ohm cabs because the head is still putting out the same amount because the ohm resistance is still 2? I'm almost positive on this, but I would like reassurance before I go ahead and buy these 4 cabinets, thanks!

p.s. 300 watts tube is ****in loud right? Ive only used solid state before this.

4 cabs will be louder then 2 with that head no matter what. the head will run out of headroom and get power amp distortion faster (not a problem for some) what 4 cabs are you thinking about? they should all be pretty similar because you will find some cabs will cut through more then others, for example when trying my mesa 4x10 out it was cutting through more then the ampeg 4x10 and a GK 4x10 and the other cabs just backed up the sound but some cabs just are voiced different and you wont here the effects of some cabs as well

150 tube watts is Fin loud (I have a peavey alphabass which is supposedly designed just like the 400 just with half the power {supposedly})

Just to clarify a previous post. The Mesa 400+ will put out 300 watts RMS at all 3 impedance loads 8 ohm 4 ohm and 2 ohm with this amp it does not get more power with lower cab impedance as solid state amps do. So 1, 8 ohm cab will get 300 watts, 2, 8ohm cabs will get 300 watts, 4, 8 ohm cabs will get 300 watts. Not to each cab but total watts RMS.

I have never ran into issues with headroom with my 400+, even on a medium sized outdoor rock/metal gig only using a Bergantino HT 210 (guitarist was using a 212, only vox through PA).

Just one more question, If im running 4 cabs at 8 ohms, do i run my lines of the 8 ohm output? I only see a 4 ohm and 8 ohm output in the picture, maybe im seeing it wrong? Help!

You plug into the 2 Ohm jacks. They are the ones on top of the 4 and 8 Ohm ones. Just as long as they are all connected in some way or another to the 2 Ohm jack, it will work. Do a search on impedances and Ohms if you need more info.
