Another best combo thread

Still on the fence here, but I think there's truth in this.

Only thing that's still holding me back is size and money. I want something really tiny... Obsessed on a couple of Phil jones amps, but realized after reading enough reviews that I will be very disappointed with the volume/oomph factor. With that out of the way, I just want wait a little longer to see if anything else stats speaking to me. Sucks that there aren't a whole lot of reviews around for the Roland 60xl.

I've also been eyeing the promethian 1x10.

Again, just thinkin out loud....

I really like small amps, and try to use the minimum wattage that is needed, mainly so that i don't have to lug much gear around.

For a gig without real drums, and mainly acoustic instruments, I think just about any decent sounding amp would do. I use my Fender Bassman 25 for gigs/jams like that, and it works great and the tone is really awesome.

I like it so much that I was looking for another one, and ended up with a Fender BXR 25 for $50. It's not quite as nice as the Bassman 25, but it's also a great little amp, and would work great in a quiet gig or jam as well. I'm planning on daisy chaining them or using my Morley ABY box to use both of them.

I'd agree with what others are saying though. I've tried to downsize from 4x10 to 2x10, but the 2x10 isn't really that much easier to transport. They're bulky, and I find it easier to roll a 4x10 than carry a 2x10, and the rolling 4x10 acts as a cart for the rest of my gear.

It sounds like you really like the Roland. If it's in the budget, I would get one. You can aways sell it if you don't like it. But if it's the one you want, you'll always want one. At least that's been my experience with GAS.

After a fair amount of research I am just about ready to pull the trigger.

Decided the Roland is too big and heavy for my purposes. Phil Jones way too expensive, without enough volume. I really dislike GK, especially after owning an MB210 and 15 (or whatever they're called), and a much more expensive and powerful combo... then realized, duh! I'm absolutely in love with my Carvin BX500.

Think I'm gonna go with a Carvin MB10 (+the added 15, now or somewhere down the line)

200 watts w/the 10 in the combo, 18.5" high, 11.5" deep, 12.75" wide, 23 lbs. 250 watts if I add the 15 which I intend to. And only $550 for both.

Combo alone is only $329. Plus I can get it in a funky color, and get a cover for it, which for me is essential.

With the 2 of those I'm pretty sure I won't miss my 212, and the sale of that will cover at least half of this. And I'll have a much more versatile setup, which will be the following:

Carvin BX500
GK Backline 600
GK Neo 212
Bergantino NV610
Carvin MB10
MB15 speaker
Roland battery powered microcube

I believe that should cover me for just about any gig imaginable.

So since I know a lot of you are losing sleep, tossing and turning, wondering what I finally decided on, I thought I'd be kind and post an update. After much thinking, obsessing, reading, wondering, etc. I felt my best bet was to go with this:

As I think I already said in this thread. I love my carvin BX500, and this gives me pretty much the same thing in a really small 10" combo, that only weighs about 20 lbs. I got it with the MB15 add on so that I'll now (with all the other stuff I posted in the posted above this post) have amplification for just about anything I can possibly imagine. I think I'm in bass amp heaven. Looking forward to this. Delivery in 2 weeks cuz I bought it with the blue covering. :hyper:

I'm thinking about buying an ampeg ba500 i found on CL. How do you like yours? Enough volume for gigging? Have you tried it with an extension cab? Thanks for any info, cant seem to find a whole lot about these amps online. PS, I'm new to TalkBass so I hope I'm doing this right. lol
