Another best combo thread

I use much smaller than that on some of my gigs, and it works out fine. I think some of these "supermicrocombos", while sounding really good and loud for what they do, often can't take a full up 300w amp anyway. And if you don't need the volume, no sense paying for it.

+1. Yep exactly.

EDIT: With that said, Bob really got the little MB110 right - the 100 watts of power into the little ported cabinet loaded with the G-K 10" driver seems to be a perfect match - seriously.

As much as I hate to say this, I'm actually now considering the mb110 as I realize it'll cost about $250, and probably be more than all I ever need for acoustic gigs. That seems like it would be the "wise" thing to do.

GAS, however, which I'm really starting to consider a sickness at this point has me thinking Phil Jones, or the Roland. Roland is what I really think I'd be happiest with in terms of volume and sound.... Phil Jones I'd be happiest with regarding size and weight, but I have a feeling the volume and tone will be REAL disappointing. Was looking at the cub. Can get 2 GKs for the price of that.

I'm jest thinking out loud here. I don't know what the hell I want. No need to pay me any mind. :)

Well then, get the Roland - otherwise you'll never be happy - you'll always just be wishing you had the Roland. Seriously.

Still on the fence here, but I think there's truth in this.

Only thing that's still holding me back is size and money. I want something really tiny... Obsessed on a couple of Phil jones amps, but realized after reading enough reviews that I will be very disappointed with the volume/oomph factor. With that out of the way, I just want wait a little longer to see if anything else stats speaking to me. Sucks that there aren't a whole lot of reviews around for the Roland 60xl.

I've also been eyeing the promethian 1x10.

Again, just thinkin out loud....

If you used this head with a 2x10 cab, would it really be so much larger and heavier that it's worth starting over with a new combo?

If I were looking for a sensible solution I wouldn't be posting on talkbass.

I want more toys.

Although... Now that you started trouble... If I got a light little 2x10, that I could pair up with another, or 1x15, I might be able to get rid of my 2x12... Save space in my house AND money. I shall now spend my day job hours searching for a lightweight 2x10. Any suggestions?

You've already got a 2x12, as well as a good little lightweight head, and you are (or at least were) shopping for a combo? That's lunacy, even by TB standards! I say just use that, and spend your dough on other toys.

That said, if I were starting from scratch my rig would be a head and a pair of (vertically stacked) 2x10s....

Bottom line is I'm gonna need to fit a passport pa, amp, and bass into the back of my Hyundai tiburon. That ain't happening with a 2x12 cab.

In that case, how sure are you that a 2x10 will fit? If you're sure it would, I like the idea of replacing your 2x12 with one of those. Based on your OP that should be more than adequate for now, and you can add another matching 2x10 somtime later after you buy a bigger car....

I understand - good luck and best wishes with your search.
