    "
Looking for bass player for established band that doesn't make much money but enjoys creating artful music.

We have been playing in bands for about 15 years... we are in our late 20's/early 30's. We occasionally do some short tours.

In some form or another this music has seeped into ours:
Beefheart, Zombies, Beach Boys, Pavement, Talk Talk, Beatles, Tom Waits, Flaming Lips, early Yes, Gastr Del Sol, Yes, Velvet Underground, Ornette, Eno, This Heat

We will probably find some common ground..
...if you dig Paul McCartney, but not Paul Gilbert.
...if you have five fingers, but not five strings.
...if sometimes it makes more sense to play a whole note, not a whole lotta notes.
...if you dig James Jamerson, not Lame Lamerton (can't figure out a good one for this one.)
...and fret less, if you are not fretless.

Please include a link to your myspace or some medium to listen to your tunes.
I will send you a link a link to our stuff in return.

We look forward to hearing from you."

I can understand the fretless thing. There's definitely a time and place for it. But I can't understand the 5-string thing. What's wrong with fivers? :spit:

I'm pretty sure that most good bassists have seen that ad and kept on moving... :rollno:

In all honesty that`s not a bad ad. They tell you their tastes, what direction their going in, and what they expect from 'you' off the bat. I really can`t see anything wrong with it past the 5-string bias, but that`s it.

I agree. The no fivers thing is kind of ignorant, but I'd rather know about it before I waste the gas to drive over there. If nothing else, it tells me that I'm not going to enjoy these guys before I even bother to audition.

I also see nothing wrong with this ad, it seems serious enough. I personally wouldnt audition because Im beginning to play my fretless SX jazz almost exclusively.

Personally I dont see the problem with someone playing a fretless just as some of you dont seem to have a problem with people playing 5ers, however a bravo to the ad poster for stating their expectations up front.

I think it's pretty reasonable. they've obviously had some bad eperiences with bass wankers in the past

  7. Correct. But knowing that, as they have put the cards on the table, and some one shows up with a 5 string fretless, hates the Beach Boys, and the Beatels and only has 4 fingers on their left hand, and thinks you will try out for the band anyway.Mostly so you can play punk, or SKA or post rock, or speed metal or whatever. Then gets their panties in a bunch because you " failed the audition" obviously because of their prejudices, then you come on here and start like 15 threads telling how you are really all of that AND a bag of chips, but they rejected you, so now you are depressed. And somehow did not see that coming.

They posted what they were looking for. If that ain't you... MOVE ON!
