Very les paulish. I am not to big on the pickguard, I like your natural ones much better. The body style, while not my bag, looks phenomenal, and that fingerboard is amazing.

Thanks. The pickguard is natural. It's African ebony. It comes out of the tree that way.

I just can't imagine installing a preamp with the Dark Stars. I know others have done it. To me the idea of a preamp kinda kills the whole vibe of what Dark Stars are really about. They're a high output pickup and they really don't need one. In fact you could almost swear you hear preamp, but you know there's nothing in there....and talk about sitting in the mix. They deliver.

This is Texas. I'm lucky my choices aren't limited to "dark wood", "light wood" and "Mesquite".

Can we assume that those would be for these tones?:

dark wood - warm tone
light wood - bright tone
mesquite - smokey?

I actually have one mesquite burl top set and enough non-burl mesquite for two more tops. Hopefully I'll be able to try it soon. I've heard it's good for making rocking chairs.
