A while back I was trying to figure out a way to recreate Dirk Lances fuzz setup in a way smaller size. Nothing really seemed practical and cheap. So I just let my idea die. For those of you who don't know, it's basically just a way to blend his fuzz with his high mids, low mids and lows. It's a really cool thing and sounds awesome. So I was just outside on the dock and thought of this idea. Are you ready?
Basically it involves a USA Big Muff, Boss bass EQ and a blend loop pedal. I'd run the EQ into the Big Muff, all in the blend loop. That way I could boost certain frequencies that are going into the Muff, mainly mids and some lows. And more importantly cut highs, so it wont sound brittle. Then blend back in some clean to add back the clean highs and some clean lows. I might run my MicroPOG in here somewhere too.
What do you guys think? Practical? Useful? Crazy? I'm kinda psyched to start saving money so I can try this. If it works I might build it all into one huge enclosure. Any suggestions for any other EQs other than the Boss? What about a blender? I was thinking the Boss LS-2, but I want to keep it as simple as possible for this rig. I'll probably end up buying one of those later anyway.
