Another headphone amp seeker

Howdy,

This is my first post. I've done some searching for a headphone amp and it seems everyone here loves the PJ Bass Buddy and Cafe Walters. I'm wondering if there is anything else I may have missed that someone would like to recommend before I make the plunge. I'd really appreciate it. I'm leaning towards the Bass Buddy due to availability and features.

I'm new to bass (I also play guitar) and currently playing through an interface with a coworker's DI.

Thanks!
Yann

I've discovered that, the bells and whistles notwithstanding, good headphones are as equally important, if you are going to use the headphone amp a lot. Audio-Technica makes great headphones; I use the ATH-M40x. Having said that, after an exhaustive search for headphone amps, I greatly suggest the Bass Buddy. The built in, 10 watt amp sealed the deal for me.

I just use a small Mackie 4-channel mixer. Invalid Link Removed is $99.00, but you can find a Mackie or other brand on sale for less. The amplifier quality is great and you can mix in music from your phone, laptop, etc. quite easily. Guitar Center actually has an 8-channel version on sale for 75 bucks right now.

Well, stay tuned - I ordered a Behringer 4 channel power mixer with headphone out and aux in for iPhone for 40 bucks; supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Was interested in the Phil Jones unit but it's over $200 new and the cafe Walter is not available. Will let you know how it works out.

Glad you settled on a solution. I'd personally opt to spend $20 more for the Zoom B1on. It's simple to plug in an Mp3 player and the gorgeous stereo verbs, choruses, slap delays, etc. will make listening with phones enjoyable, not to mention the backup drum tracks. The mono that you'll hear from the mixer will be utilitarian, but it will work if that's what you are shooting for.

Welcome here Yann!

If price is a concern, check out ART stuff. Most bang for the buck as far as sound goes. You might even want to get something like the baby mixer so it can also DI or connect to a computer. ART | Sweetwater

Also, consider some semi-open headphones. < $100 AKG studio headphones are much safer for your ears and you can hear sounds like the baby screaming for milk. AKG K240 Studio Semi-open Pro Studio Headphones
