another "help me choose" thread

Which one would you guys recommend?

- Spector Legend 4 made in Korea (?), all stock
- 1993 MIM P-Bass, upgraded with Badass bridge and Dimarzio dp127 pups

I know your answer would be "try 'em both", but I can't do that since those offers come from another city.

Mostly I play rock and alternative stuff.... I'm familiar with Fender basses, but not with that pickup, and I know nothing of Spector basses.

I don't think that I try Spector Legend 4 made in Korea.
All the experience I have with korea, China, and all of touse are not that good.
Very low quality...

Then you'd be surprised bamba22 to find that spector Legends' quality is far superior to the MIM fender one.

Yeah, my legend 5 has been great, I'd choose the spector myself, Im not into the P sound tho.

The thing that should worry you more is what kind of sound u're after. The Legend imo is more well-built than the MIM, but the factor that would make me chose a P bass or a Spector would be the sound.

Spector basses provide more of a modern sound. A p-bass provides mostly a vintage type of sound. Don't forget that the legend is an active bass and the P a passive.
The reason i'm a member of both of these clubs is because i wanted to have tonal options

I would go hands down towards the legend, but the dimarzio p'up and the badass bridge are tempting.

If you play classic rock stuff i think the P would suit better. If you play modern rock stuff they can both handle it well. As for the alternative stuff i think the spector would fit better. Of course these are just my opinions.

Try searching on youtube to find samples of a spector legend sound and of a P with dimarzio p'up sound. Then you decide.

Have in mind that the spector has tighter string spacing and a bit narrower neck.

I tried the Spector in a shop. It's great, very versatile. It's like you can get (almost) any sound out of it. The neck is also more comfortable than P-Bass.

But.... I end up by gettting a Fender Highway-1 P-Bass. Awesome! With the right strings, I find the sound I want (GHS "Flea" Bass Boomers)
Still prefer slimmer neck like Jbass or Ibanez but this is still nice to play.

Now I gotta hunt for an amp... hehehehee....
