Another "help me pick an amp" thread Ashdown Vs Crate

Ok, I am looking for a small amp just for practice and maybe small jam sessions. I will not be playing out or gigging and most likely will not even be playing with a drummer. I am looking for soemthing small with not a lot of wattage and volume isn't a concern. I was checking out the Crate bt25 as it is a step up from their smallest amp and adds more features. However the Ashdown perfect 10 mini rig caught my eye as well. I do not have anyone near me that sells ashdown so I can't plug into one and check it out. Again, the wattage/volume isn't a concern, just the sound. I am into mostly punk and metal with a little slap thrown in for fun.

Any opinions between these 2?

Ashdowns > Crate any day. Every crate I've played through does not have the level of clarity one would really search for in a small practice amp. On the other hand, you may want to check out the smaller Ampegs (the B100R really captures a vintage vibe, my school owns one and I find it very easy to dial great tones in). I own a Fender rumble 60, and while its not perfect, leaving the EQ flat and EQ'ing onboard allows for some pretty excellent tones.

I would also suggest an ampeg b100r, those little buggers are nice!

i would recommend almost anything over crate without hesitation. the fender bassman combos sounds really good. my school has a million of them and i usually set the EQ flat.

But I have a Crate MXB50 12" 50 watts and I think the tone is just dandy on it.

Ashdown makes a better amp, flat out. The Peavey minx110 is a great practice amp as well. I've had mine for years and the durability, sound quality, and volume are all good for the price. My main rig uses an Ashdown head btw.

Crate and Ampeg are part of the same company ... makes you wonder .... Oh and uh ... go ASHDOWN.

I'm not a big Ampeg fan.

Nice stuff if you spend the cash for the better great but it will always, always sound like and ampeg no matter what you do. If I played hard rock music all the time I'd have one!
