Hi folks,
Total newbie here, sort of played guitar on & off over the last 20+ years but have never gotten good enough to play out, etc. When I went to buy my first guitar way back then the salesman asked guitar or bass. I hadn't even thought about it so I just blurted out guitar. Think that was the start of my problems as the parts of the songs I always hear are the beat, not the guitar leads. So when people talk about just playing along with songs to get better I always struggled with guitar and wondered if I'm more a bass guy. Fast forward to last week, my daughter took me to see Dick Dale in Atlanta and I was totally blown away! He played guitar of course, cornet, harmonica, did a duet with the drummer on his kit and lastly a duet of sorts using mostly drum sticks on the strings & body of a bass while the bassist fingered the notes. Unreal show!!! I was hooked and decided to dive back into music this time on the bass. So I ordered a Fender bass and a Markbass Student Amp from Musicians Friend (bass was a flash sale buy, and 15% off the amp with their 'stretch' discount code). Both should get to the house sometime in the next few weeks (amp is on back order) so right now just hanging out watching introductory videos on Youtube and found this place to hang out from time to time. I look forward to asking a whole lot of newbie questions so please be patient with me, I'm slow sometimes!
