Johno, the Avator is what it is...a nice budget cab. I owned the 2 x 12, which sounded great @ 4 ohms. I sold it about a year ago to purchase the Epi 2 x 12, which I actually have for sale now on TB. I'm pretty much using my UL 310, and UL 210 & the Berg. I do disagree with some others....I have used the small rig, UL 210 & the Epiu UL502 on small gigs..and it easily covered the room & the guitar player.
It's really what's in your budget. Avator is a nice cab, will it compare to a Epi UL or Berg? No. Does it sound good? IMO-yes.
Are any of these cabs muddy? Hell no. For what it's worth: I play Sadowsky's. I own two Metro;s & one NY just purchased from Brian @ The Low End.
Remember in any cab you buy....there is a breaking in period for the speakers their selves. When I purchased my Epi UL310 Series II drivers, I was disappointed at first ( I owned a 310 Epi, but not the light weight models...and that sounded kick ass). After a few months, I wouldn't trade my new Epi UL 310 fpor anything.
Remember, that's my opinion. One man's food can be another man's poison.
I do think the one area where the LMII might be alittle weak, is in the Direct Out. Our band does allot of shows with sound companies. I never had one soundman or soundwoman complain about the Epi Direct Out or the sound of the Epi rig. Now I must admit, I have only used the LMII on a smaller show, where we did our own sound.
I'm actually alittle scared to try the LMII on a big show...for the simple fact.....my Epi has never failed in in over two years......the old..if it's not broke don't fix it.
I think you have had allot of good advice on this thread.
Follow your heart..and your instinct......you'll be fine.
Oh yeah, follow the pocketbook too! LOL
