I was looking for a small and simple but high quality blender and found the radial vocoloco. It´s actually a mic preamp with an fx channel. I already own a (tube)piezo buffer, so the buffer connects to the fx return channel with it´s own gain control.
The mic channel has a two band eq and the fx (now pickup) channel has a single tone control, brighter or darker. There is a DI out and a mute foot switch, you also might connect a tuner to the fx send.
I used this pre on three gigs until now and did some test recordings, today I finally decided to keep it.
What I really like is the ability to change the amount of mic vs pickup without changing the overall volume. I also do prefer a simple eq, too many knobs without being able to hear how it sounds from the distance is not my thing. Phase reverse of course is there as well.
The only thing missing might be a line out, but I could use a xlr to jack connector and plug it into my amp and use the amp´s DI out instead.
I like to mention this unit for those who already own a piezo buffer and are looking for a simple solution to blend the pickup with a mic. This thing is definitely not what will show up at first, but it´s completely nice for this job. Especially if you are happy with your pickup sound and only want to make some minor yet effective eq adjustments.
