Anyone have a guess as to what effect is being used on the bass during the chorus of this song? It sounds like a bit crusher to me, but I thought I would see if anyone else had an idea.

I think it's a synth taking over. 
Not sure tough. I think that I might be possible to emulate it with a synth pedal in combination with some sort of sweep. Or none, not sure...

If it's the bass player it's probably his Akai Deep Impact. That same sound is attainable with a Moog Freqbox as well.
If you are referring to Paul Turner here, I don't think that he actually played on this album. If I remember rightly, the bass on this album was played by a few different session bassists, and contains a lot more synth bass than previous albums, as it was after Stuart Zender but before Paul. I think that Nick Fyffe was the touring bassist around this time but not sure who did bass on this track. I would guess that it is probably a synth.
