Another Newbie question

I own an Ibanez EDB600 bass. Someone asked me the other day, "do you own a P or J bass"? I couldn't answer them. I was ashamed. So could someone tell me what my bass is?
Neither. P is a fender precision, J is a fender Jazz. I'm guessing your bass is a none of the above (as are plenty of others)
J bass has two pickups that are shaped like black bars on it. The bars are thin. One is near the middle of the body, one is near the bridge.

There are other types as well, but those are the two most popular. Yours is considered an SS bass.. because it has two fat bar pickups (Soapbars, they're called). The Ergodynes are very untraditional basses and will be hard to classify easily. I had an EDA905 a while ago. I called it "the Delorean".

they are 3 major pickup designs. Humbuckers (MM), Precision (P) style, and Jazz (J) style. Yours is a humbucker with small pole piece, designed to reduce noise (the 'hum') and give a fatter sound. They can be pretty chunky, like on Musicman or the Corvette $$, and without a cover.
