another ohm and wiring question

hi guys..maybe you can help me here. i had a peavey 1810 cab. we all know what a bitch it is to carry. i split the cab and made it into a 2x10 and an 18 ,each having it's own jack. the ohms are mismatched though. i think the 18 was 8 and the 10"s 4. or vice versa. i run each out of the outputs from a peavey max 700 head. my question is what would happen if i ran a paralel jack from the 10's into the 18 or the other way around. i think that was how it was wired for full range origionaly. i should have thought of this before hand i guess. thanks in advance for any help with this
 
No it wasn't wired that way for full-range. The full-range input went to a crossover and kept the extreme lows out of the 10's. Do you still have the crossover/input module? You could easily wire it up so that you could plug your amp into the crossover box (mount it in the 2x10 cabinet), and have another 1/4 jack that comes out of the low OUT to connect the 18 cabinet.

of course, by all accounts crossing over is a waste of a 2x10 cab, which is usually perfectly capable of carrying the lows.

Probably the 10's are 8 ohms each and the 18 is 4 ohms. The crossover was internal to the Megabass amp that ran these cabs. Each channel (one high and one low) could handle a 4 ohm load. You will need a two channel power amp or a two ohm capable head. The prospect of feeding full range signals to each of these cabs aged drivers, unsuited to full-range use, is daunting. :eek:
 
:ninja:Arbitrarily connecting cabs or drivers in parallel can and will cause excessive loads to be seen by your amp, which will respond by failing. To successfully series/parallel a group of drivers or cabs requires someone who is intimately familiar with series/parallel concepts as well as being familiar with what the amp will allow. Again, a PROFESSIONAL, EXPERIENCED technician is you only source for reliable informatioin so you don't risk your amp.:cool:
