I recently found a 1994 Fender P bass on craigslist for $200. The owner bought it from someone else in attempts to learn. After buying it and bringing it home I've noticed some things that look a little suspicious to me. First the neck doesn't fit the body of the bass very well. There is still plastic on the pickguard even though it's from 94. And a few little things like that. Is it possible that someone put a fender neck on the body of a cheaper bass? Is there any way to tell? It sounds and plays just like a b pass and is more than worth two hundred dollars, I would just like to know if I have been taken advantage of.
Humm, going on a whim here (I haven't played a P-bass) but don't they usually have a company stamp in the neck pocket or the control cavity? That seems the general way to find out *shrug*
well any B Pass will have it's share of issues.. but seriously. It's possible but if it plays and sounds good to your ears and stays in tune.. I wouldn't worry about it
Hi PortugalWillie. Can you post some pics? Fender instruments are no strangers to the occasional poor neck fit. I saw one in the mid-'70's with a gap between its neck & neck pocket wide enough to insert nickels into. The pick-guard could have been recently replaced for cosmetic reasons. $200 is a good price if the bass plays & sounds good and holds its tuning well.
Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. It is a good bass and I won't be upset either way, I guess I'm just curious. And I moved out of my parents house this summer and at some point lost the cord I need to upload pictures from camera. I was really just wondering if there was a fender stamp somewhere on the actual body of the bass. I figured someone on here might know, there seems to be a lot of bass players who know A LOT more about fenders than I do.
