Are you using the traditional Boss 5L and 5U pedals for on-off / scrolling or are you using the more sophisticated MIDI controller?

I use a tech 21 midi mouse for scrolling through programs

    Because it's simple.
One switch on the floor that's battery powered and only
one (midi) cord going back to the effect
it has a numerical display; so you have an idea where you are.

Scan from program 1 to program 25 without activating 2 thru 24 (unless you want to).

Physically turning the Unit On/Off will require a Latched Switch,
such as the Boss FS-5L or use a switch on an A/B box using an instrument cord.
...or use a blank program as 'off.'
I've never found it necessary to use the 'Hard' on/off, except
    for comparing levels when programming.
