Hey all,

Still planning out my first set neck bass, and am wondering just how much heel should I be planning to glue down into the pocket? Not in terms of thickness (I saw the thread from a few days ago that tjclem posted), but rather in length? I assume that the more surface area glued, the better...because of this, I'm trying to adjust my template to accomodate the necessary length.

You are right. The more surface the better. If you are going to build a bass with a top, you can cut out a relatively long pocket, glue in the neck and then glue the top over it, in this way you can conceal the neck and make it look like a neck-through. Also the top, glued over the portion of the neck that rests in the pocket will add strenght and stability to the glued joint.
