Another watt question

I am driving a pair of Yamaha BRM12 12" floor monitors (250w RMS/300w power/600w peak- at 8 Ohms) with a high-end stereo hi-fi amp which puts out 200w @ 8 and 400w @ 4.

I'm using both outputs from the amp so I guess this is called an "in series" hookup.

If I used only one output from the amp into one monitor and then connected that monitor to the second monitor (each monitor has two 1/4" jacks), I assume I would be driving the monitors "in parallel" at 4 Ohms (not 8 ). Would this cause each speaker to get 400 watts?

No, That's not what that means.

No, each speaker will be getting 200 watts.

You have to have two speakers connected to an amplifier channel in order to have either series or parallel connections. If just one speaker is connected to each amp channel, it’s just... well, there’s no real word for it.

Correct, that would be a parallel connection. The total amplifier output would rise to 400 watts, but it would be divided between the two speakers. So, each speaker sees only 200 watts.
