Were putting on a tribute, with a lot of different musicians performing, as groups, soloists, etc. We will be miking and DI-ing everything. Of course, every guitar player wants his own amp up there, and luckily, they're all fairly small 15 watters or so. There will be two keyboards, 8 guitar amps, bass, drums, percussion, and about 8 vocal mics on stage.
Last time we did this, the bass amp was a swr900/610 cab just for stage monitoring, and di'ed to FOH with subs. I hated the sound on stage, and in the room it was very indistinct. 12,000 ft sound stage, 300 people, btw. Didn't have professional help, just everyone pitched in amps, pa's, etc, and we did the mixing. Not too bad, but I want to improve the sound this time.
I want to use a Mesa Walkabout 12 on stage, DI to the board, out to a power amp, and use a 410 or 610 cab exclusively in front. I think the bass will sound better. Opinions? Am I missing something here?
