Somehow I made it through the 90’s without really hearing Anthony Cox. Even though he was playing with people like Geri Allen, Joe Lovano, Dewey Redman, Ed Blackwell, and other great players that I was into at the time, I never checked him out.

Two records that are really knocking me out right now. Dark Metals

It’s pretty fun to have a new favorite bassist!

I really like Anthony's playing.

I hate how he got short shrift from the critics and record labels back in the day because he didn't wear an Armani suit and play like jazz stopped in 1959.

I'm a massive fan, he's amazing. There's a great Steve Lacy trio album with him as well as the other fantastic albums listed above. I got to hang out with him for an evening a few years ago after hearing him play trio with Tony Malaby in Chicago - which was quite an experience, he was extremely kind and generous and full of great stories

I’ve been on an Anthony Cox kick too! The live at the Vanguard with Lovano is unbelievable.
