Anthony Jackson, Chaka "Move Me No Mountain", Pick or Fingers?

Most covers seem to use fingers, so what do I know.
Pick/fingers aside, that cover is spot on. He even takes care to play AJ's idiosyncratic open-string/5th-fret repeated note lines. A lot of people miss that detail.
Whew! Wore me out just listening to that! Definitely not a pick. I don't think he had adopted pick playing at that time.I'm going with pick.
For The Love Of Money was 1973. That was 7 years before this track
indeed. Think he started with pick. Most of his 70s recordings are with a pick. Think he only went to fingerstyle later in his career (?) from end 70s and on or so.
If I remember right, Anthony was given months to write the basslines for this album. Figures that each track has outrageously good bass.

Sounds like fingers to me.
My guess: Part of the tone is a characteristic of the bass. Another part is AJ's awesomeness and the idiosyncrasies of his technique. The last part is studio magic.

Think I read in an interview that he re-recorded all the bass tracks of that album in his own time because he wanted to play it with that bass tuned in C. That's what ended up the record.
Remember AJ always had the pick in his arsenal. He recorded “For the Love of Money” six years before “Move No Mountain.”
Anthony was well into using a pick when He played on Al DiMeola's albums in the late 70's and 80's.
Pick. Every AJ article or interview indicates he recorded his bass with a pick not because he wanted a sharp attack but because he was much more comfortable with a pick. He played his 5 string basses exclusively with a pick in the late 70’s and 80’s.
