Anthony Jackson knows bass. Youve heard his bottom-end work on recordings by Chick Corea, Al Di Meola, John Scofield, Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Buddy Rich, Tom Scott, Phoebe Snow, Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. When it comes to the 6-string Contrabass Guitar the instrument Jackson helped design his luthier of choice is Fodera, widely recognized as one of the world leaders in ultra high-end electric basses. Nearly all Fodera models use Basslines Custom Shop pickups, and their Anthony Jackson Presentation Model 6-String Contrabass Guitar is no exception.
A rock maple neck with walnut lines and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard runs through the alder body with a rare, quilted mahogany top. The scale length is 36 with 28 hand polished frets. All the woods were carefully selected by the Fodera principals. The fingerboard wood alone is over 80 years old!
The single pickup was designed and built in the Basslines Custom Shop by Chief Engineer, Kevin Beller a bass player himself. Under the figured wood cover, its essentially a double Jazz Bass® pickup with single quarter-pound pole pieces under the High C string for better string-to-string balance and even tonality. It also features individually calibrated pole piece magnets. The pickup was voiced specifically for this instrument. In the interest of simplicity and pure tone, the passive pickup runs straight to the jack theres no volume and no tone.
