Hi,
I am looking for a cheap ($100, $150 max) preamp that has a pre-shaped contour/color switch and a decent compressor.
Ideally to have a better modern slap tone.
No need for other features (DI, etc).
Any idea?
I have the BFR and can boost either pre or post the VT section but I can't kick-in a contour. Well, I guess I could if I set the VT for the desired slap contour and kicked the whole section in & out as needed...but the VT section sounds so good when active 100% of the time! For the stated budget, I was leaning toward some older technology: a programmable BDDI. It's almost too easy to get the mid-scoop plus there's some baked-in compression.
