Any info on 80's Ampeg SVT "Fuel Injection" head?

Hi guys,

Someone is selling an 80's SVT which has an extra badge. He says it was sold to him as a separate model of SVT head at the time.

I have searched high and low, and I can't find a thing about them. The only thing that comes up is the direct injection SVT-DI direct box Ampeg used to make.

Help!

Edit: I first posted this calling it an SVT-CL, when that model came after this one is supposed to be built. Whoops!

I think you mean the 1987 special edition that is referred to as the Skunk Works SVT.

The Skunk looks almost identical to an MTI era SVT which was made in Japan. The most visible difference is the badge on the back shape of the case. If you look at the amps from the side, the front edge of the Skunk will angle back parallel with the preamp panel. The MTI side panel goes straight up for it's entire length.

I bought a brand new MTI in the early 80s and the badge was on the left like the Skunk.

You guys are great! It has no xxx/500 skunk works on the back, and simply a FUEL INJECTION below ampeg badge (both top right). It's an MTI, because the bottom right of the back, the white line-box doesn't have slm like they did on skunks.

Side walls go straight up, as best I can tell. Right side badge. MTI makes sense, no skunk plate on the back.

One more thing, there's an unlabeled 1/4" jack to the right of the speaker outs, left of ohm switch. Looks shiny in the pics, while the speakers look worn/faded.

The Fuel Injection logo looks like it came from an 80's/90's 3rd Gen Camaro. lol Guessing someone added that on. And the headbox gives it away as an MTI error head. Still nice units if you can get it for the right price.


*EDIT* That badge may be worth some money. Looks very similar to an "1987 only" fuel injection badge used ona chevy pickup.. These guys are looking for them: Invalid Link Removed

No reason to feel dumb. There are some special editions and one off that it is always good to ask about first.

I edited my original post with more info on the badge. :)

Right now head prices seem to be low as a lot of people are looking for small and light. I've see SVT's in different models going from $500-1500+ right now. Depending on the condition, what tubes are in it (if it had good GE 6550's) and if it has ever been serviced would help with pricing.

If you dont mind saying, what is he asking?

Gas powered SVT. Illegal to use in California, and soon in any left wing state. The coal powered ones, in the couple of states you can still use them, are particularly nice, though the contacts on the jacks get dirty quick. You also don't need a hazer or fog machine if you run one of those.

This kind of cross-pollination between different spheres of interest is why the internet is awesome sometimes. .....Sometimes.
