Hey Y'all. I'm a New Orleans area bassist planning a summer tour and trying to decide whether or not to travel with my left handed bass. I'm looking into possibly renting someone's bass for the occasion. Specifically in the Los Angeles area, San Francisco, Portland OR, Seattle, and London/UK folks...do you or anyone you know play a left handed upright bass? If so, I'm putting the line out for a possible rental for the summer. Please get in contact with me so we can exchange information. Double Bass Any Left Handed Upright Bassists??

Upright Newbie here.
I'm in Michigan, Battle Creek to be exact. I know I'm not on your path but I wanted to pipe in anyway. My bass isn't at the level you are seeking but I wanted to share my info anyway. If you're ever in the area and need a bass, give me a hollar. I'm two hours from Downtown Detroit, three hours from Downtown Chicago and three hours from Downtown Indianapolis.
About two weeks ago I just picked up a cheapy Chinese Prima ViolaMaster P80. It's a factory lefty, in Black. The previous owner had installed a used set of the D'Addario Helicore Hybrids. (gold thread with green string winding). They're pretty dead, but, they still give a thump. The deal included a Fishman BP-100 pickup, French bow, rosin and bag for $300. Not bad.
It has an adjustable bridge, though I still need to have the bridge shortened somehow because it is still too high at it's lowest setting. My guess, is the Chinese manufacturer installed the adjustable mechanisms in the bridge and didn't compensate for the added height of the adjustable wheels. Not a huge issue as long as I stay above the 5th position.
I'm planning to take lessons in the Fall. I have been playing electric bass for almost 30 years. Mostly, rock, blues and country. Along with learning the basics of double bass, I am planning to explore the basics of jazz as well. Wish me luck.
For being a cheapy instrument, I'm having a lot of fun. If all goes well, I can definitely see a nicer instrument in my future.
I would appreciate any string recommendations you can make. I am planning to learn how to use a bow (arco), but I think my primary playing will be with my fingers. (pizzicato)
