ANY love out there for MIM's?

I'm not sure I know who I'm seconding (or ninthing) because I haven't read all 180 replies, but I've always had good luck with MIMs. Particularly the '70s Classic Jazz. Compared to even the best MIAs, it's neck and overall feel cannot be beat.

That said, there is huge inconsistency between both MIMs and MIAs, just seems more so with the Mexican variety.

Yeah, I think this may well be true. I think even Squier CVs are more consistent in quality than MIMs (speaking very generally.)

Of course, MIMs have been in production a lot longer than Squier CVs, and have gone through numerous changes.

Like I say, I feel as though I lucked into a very good one, and it held its own against two more or less identical MIA Ps I played the same time I bought my MIM. There were definitely things I felt were "better" on the MIAs, primarily in the hardware and electronic guts.

There was nothing on my MIM that really "needed" modding or upgrading, but I did order up a nice wiring harness, a new pickguard and a SD SPB-3 pickup. I already have new Fender chrome knobs and some new strings ready to go for it. I believe I'll leave the nut, tuners and bridge alone. They feel fine and are perfectly functional. The nut is cut great.

This is one of my best players. 1999 MIM Precision Special. Moded though. EMG pickups. 18v BQS preamp, Bad Ass II bridge and a bone nut.

The body just came in from the 'bay a very cool Roger Waters body that the owner had tried to relic . I sanded that out a little more as it needed to be smoother. It's a great body though , it's 2 piece you can see the seam right up the middle and it's very light . I'll toss it on the scale later to check it . The Road worn neck came in from the deal here with one of the lads and it's super sweet . Still waiting for the F plate but I should be able to start on her today . What do you guys like for a p/g . We have a single ply black or Aluminum Gold.

So I just noticed some thing a little odd . The Aluminum p/g has a extra hole it in , next one down on the lower horn part . No biggie I have no problem putting a screw there and all the other holes line up perfectly . In fact a little better then this Black WD p/g line up but I cannot locate an 11 hole p/g anywhere to see what it came off of . Any one have any ideas where this 11 hole Aluminum p/g came from ? Cheers

I LUST (it's more than simple GAS)--LUST, I tell you, after an Antigua P or J bass. Possibly my favorite Fender finish, though I know it is much-disdained.

I have a project P bass I am going to start working on soon. I have refinished many guitars and basses in my day, but have never attempted any kind of burst. I am considering trying an antigua finish on this project, but I don't know yet...

I plan on putting Vintage 70's pickups on it with maybe the 62 Jazz pre-wire kit bestbassgear sells. Maybe a Babicz too. For the price I paid why not.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I love mine, they don't all suck! Any others love theirs?

That looks exactly like my '97 MiM J fretless. The only think I did to it was install a J-Retro in it. Why? Because I had it and 'what the heck' I love it. Mod or no mod it does fine by me. With the exception of the stock out of the box setup issues everyone puts up with, I thought it was well worth the $285.00 I paid for it then. IMO, It's still a great value now.

2003 Precision in Midnight Wine. $200 on CL. One of five Precision "keepers" currently in my stable. All stock, and the pickup is way punchy. I have a replacement bridge but didn't bother installing it, as the original proved solid (not always the case). The neck feels great, is super stable and the finish
and patina remind me of USA Jazz necks I coveted as a kid way back in the '70's.
And did I mention the price?
