i mean excluding those that have thier own sections on the forum like jmj ect. on my first day here, i saw names like john deacon and others i admire. i was gonna send a pm to say hi, and compliment his work on 'my best friend' a great bass song. (in case u are still in the dark, QUEEN)then i realise by the questions he was asking thee was no way it could be him,lol. any signed major leaguers hangin out? im not a great player, most of u guys play better than me. but i have much experience, so maybe i can help someone out somehow. johnny april aka oldschool from staind

There's some well-known players in some bigger bands on here from time to time, but a lot of them like to lay low and try not to get too much attention. I know I've seen Tal Wilkenfeld and Rufus Philpot on here, along with Alan Goldstein. BTW, welcome to TalkBass.

I have seen Vail Johnson from Kenny G's band and Jay from Bad Religion on here.

I know it doesn't really count as MAJOR major, but I play with Bowzer from Sha Na Na ;)

There are a lot of pros on here. Some have come and gone, some are long time contributors, and some are lurkers.

I'll be honest, I'm not a huge staind fan any more, but I don't listen to that genre of rock really, anymore, so it's not your fault. Haha. I thought Dysfunction was a fantastic album (still do, really). Mudshovel was one of the songs that got me into bass guitar.

Like others said, there are many pros on TB, but they seem more likely to be well established sidemen (women) or bass soloists instead of rockstars like yourself.

cool answers! im still lost on what a cherry boy is, but i am down with bowzer fer sure. thank you for the mudshovel comment, mike made that harmonic noise, and said "can you put music behind that?" those were my most famous 3 notes,lol. i bet there are more lurkers here than we know. show yourselves ! thanks for the welcomes. johnny a

Hey there Johnny,
Didn't you rock G&Ls alot in Staind? I bet some folks down in the G&L forum would be curious to hear about your thoughts on those basses.

(FWIW, I'm a pro too here in LA---(sessions--some major label guys and many indie acts, lotsa TV and film work--not in a band per se and haven't been in years, but a working stiff too nonetheless--whatever pays the bills:).

hmmm...i've had a shot or two at it...

i was a member of jbt for about 6 months....we played at bonnaroo, opened for john mayer and dave mathews and ended up at a heap of summer festivals in 2002

i've also recorded on electric and double with a handful of aussie artists

i got more to tell but i'd seem up myself, but i just love playing to people...the bigger the crowd the closer i get to heaven (and i don't mean i suffer mild heart attacks.....)

It's all about the song! I've listened to your lines a few times... you are doing just fine :bassist:

I found this place following Mike Watt's cyber trail. He had his own forum section like JMJ does now.

Mark White of the Spin Doctors floats through as does Tad from Blues Traveler. I'm pretty sure Todd from Derek Truck's band and Tony Franklin have visited as well.

Oh yeah, George Porter Jr was here briefly too (I interviewed him and dragged him in :) )

Mike Watt was the big one for me. It was cool chatting with him a bit, it's funny, I had a couple decent conversations with him online, then when I saw him after a show, I was the first guy he saw. I can never think of anything worthwhile to say to "celebrities," regardless of how down to earth they are, so I just shook his hand and thanked him for putting on an awesome show.

His forum didn't serve much of a purpose, and I think he got bored. It was cool he was willing to do it, but there weren't many worthwhile threads.
